Gamble Garden is a beautiful historical house and garden where there is always something new blooming. We were rained out when we scheduled paintsites here in March, but we had very pleasant sunny weather this day. The gorgeous sights of the garden were enhanced by the lovely sounds of many birds singing sweetly in the trees.
Elizabeth Frances Gamble, granddaughter of the co-founder of Procter & Gamble, had lived in the Gamble House most of her life, and at her death in 1981 at age ninety-two she left her house and garden to the City of Palo Alto. The house had been built in 1902 and the formal gardens designed in 1908. Elizabeth F Gamble's gardens became known throughout the community and she shared them generously. Now open free to the public every day during daylight hours, the garden is run by a non-profit organization and a host of volunteers.
