The Los Altos History Museum’s website, in referring its attractions, says there is “something for everyone” and this was certainly true, at least from an artist's perspective. The J. Gilbert Smith House is probably the most prominent feature of the museum complex. The early craftsman-style farm house was once surrounded by 14 plus acres of apricot orchard and produced prize-winning apricots for 72 years. Many of our artists were attracted to the warm raw sienna and burnt umber tones of the shingled farmhouse, its water tower and outbuildings while others were drawn to the old farm equipment, the museum’s beautifully maintained perennial garden, or its large stately oaks with their wonderful cast shadows, and of course shade for the painters.
Our trip to the museum was followed by a delicious potluck at the home of SCVWS member Tanvi. Many thanks for offering to host this fun event at your beautiful home.
