Overfelt Gardens Park, McKee Rd, San Jose, Thursday March 21, 2019

We are having a lucky streak of good weather for Thursday Paintsites and also we were very fortunate that Sylvia, one of our past coordinators, was in town and could join us!

This year's record rainfall has put a damper on many outdoor activities but it has been a plus for the Overfelt garden ponds since the percolation ponds rise and fall depending on the rainfall. They are usually dry and unattractive in drought years but today they were full and alive with waterfowl.

Using the land donated by Mildred Overfelt  in 1959 this park was designed as an area of tranquillity for the people of San Jose. The 33 acre property features a Chinese Cultural Garden with many interesting structures including a friendship gate, pavilions and a statue of Confucius, a California Native plant section and a wildlife sanctuary.
