Moss Landing. Thursday, July 30, 2015.

Lots to see and paint in Moss Landing:  Working boats, yachts, (some in the water, others high and dry), otters, the Old Salinas River, and the mighty power plant (smokestacks initially lost in the morning fog), and the ocean and beach.   And of course lunch at Phil's Fish Market --- a Paintsites tradition in the making.

The morning was a bit overcast (but not in the least cold) or, as plein air artists say, "atmospheric"  --- which lent itself very well to painting boats ...

What we really made the long drive to Moss Landing for was ... lunch at Phil's

After lunch, some headed back to the harbor while others headed to the beach...

Japanese Friendship Garden, Kelley Park, San Jose. Thursday, July 23, 2015.

Weather wise, we had an absolutely perfect day for plein air painting in the traditional Japanese style garden located in San Jose's Kelley Park between Happy Hollow and the History Park.

In addition to the confusing parking regulations and the balky Pay Station (bring bills only and multiple credit cards as some aren't accepted), we're still trying to figure out if the "Please Stay Off the Grass" signs were intended for the hundreds of Canada Geese in the park or for us.  For all the good it did in either case, the signs might as well have said "Please Stay On the Grass".    And for the geese: "And Don't Bother Cleaning Up After Yourselves" ---which they didn't!.   And for the artists: "Mind Where You Step" --- which we did!

 Undoubtedly the most interesting architectural feature in the park is the bright red bridge leading from the "mainland" to a small island.    It's definitely a magnet for plein air painters -- no "Paint Me" sign needed.
