Hayes Mansion and Edenvale Gardens, San Jose, Thursday, November 21, 2019

The Hayes Mansion was built in 1905 by E.A. and J.O. Hayes, publishers of the San Jose Mercury and San Jose Herald newspapers. This lovely 4100 square foot 62 room villa (currently managed as a hotel and conference center) was designed by George Page and has been noted as one the finest examples of late 19th - century architecture in the Valley.  Edenvale Gardens Regional Park, directly across the entrance to the hotel, was once the grounds to the Hayes Mansion and later in the 1960s and 1970s was the site of Frontier Village.

Charleston Slough, Palo Alto Baylands Nature Preserve, Thursday, November 14, 2019

Many thanks to Edward Rooks, naturalist and Paintsites artist, for leading the North Bay paint site this Thursday. The Charleston Slough, situated on the beautiful Palo Alto Baylands,  is a perfect location for panoramic views of marshland habitat as well as the distant East Bay Hills and the Santa Cruz Mountains to the west. The large ponds, Adobe Creek and Casey Forebay are all effected by the tides and provide excellent habitat for overwintering and migrating birds.

For more information about the area, visit: https://www.mountainview.gov/depts/cs/shoreline/explore/ecosystems.asp

Pebble Beach Private Residence, Monterey Peninsula, Thursday, November 14, 2019

Thank you very much Julie for welcoming our Paintsites group to your beautiful home in Pebble Beach. As Cindy had promised the view was truly spectacular along with your charming house and gardens. Thanks Cindy for bringing this opportunity to our attention and for helping organize the day.

The weather forecast was for cloudy skies and there was even a possibility of being socked in by fog. Luckily the fog kept its distance and by late morning we were graced by intermittent sun. Most artists set up on the patio area (surrounded by oaks, cypress and Monterey pine), taking in the views of distant Carmel and the Carmel Highlands while others focused on the property's historic residence (eclectic Spanish) and terraced garden.
