Hayes Mansion/Edenvale Park, San Jose, Thursday July 8. Redwood Grove, Los Altos, Thursday July 22, 2021.

Redwood Grove Preserve

While Alison was away staying cool in northern climes, Paintsites members were seeking shade amongst the Los Altos redwoods. Not surprisingly, the grove seemed a little “parched”.  So we didn’t see any water in the creeks, and the trees seemed paler than usual.  But it was a beautiful day, with perfect weather. Lora, Lorraine, Linda, Claudia, Lisha (welcome back Lisha!), Candy, Karen, Masako, Helen, Kathryn H, Brad

Hayes Mansion/Edenvale Park

Thank-you Susan BG for warmly greeting a gregarious gang of painters! Linda B, Katherine H, Kris, Brad, Bill, Annie, Lora, Candy, Lisha, Lora, Jayne, Claudia, and Alison kept busy playing "find and seek -aka where's the shade", and "dodge the groundskeepers' mowers, edgers and leaf blowers". We also played a color matching game to try to mix color and match  the "reflected light" on the building,  ending in a lunch discussion of how to  interpret  the reflections.
A few painters who visited Frontier Village had little memory of Hayes Mansion, and it is because the mansion was in private hands and not expanded by the City of San Jose until 1990's long after Frontier Village was shuttered. For more information.

AUGUST 5 – PAINT SITE:  San Jose Municipal Rose Garden

AUGUST 19 – PAINT SITE: Triton Museum, Santa Clara

Paintsites member John Ediger has moved to Washington State. Thank you John for sending us an update on your move and for including your latest watercolor (see below).

We have moved into a beautiful 3 bedroom rambler in Burlington Washington. It has been one hell of a year for 2020 as everyone well knows. I have done very little finished work in that year. I have mostly sketched and messed around with my paints. For those of you who sent me messages I apologize for I have been very lax with my website. Hopefully this year is starting out much better and I feel motivated again. Thank you all for looking at my Art Work. I really appreciate it! " ~ John E.

We miss you, and wish you lots of painting adventures in your new state. To see more of John's artwork go to: https://www.soulyart.com/recent-works

Rengstorff House, Mountain View, June 3, 2021

Our invitation must have been lost in the mail! Thursday painters were surprised  by a graduation held on Rengstorff House grounds. Perched like paparazzi in the landscape, we painted unique angles and challenged our perspective. We bid bon voyage to Jane for the summer and usher in Lora as a co- leader!

"Unfortunately, I'd already sketched my scene and started sloshing on paint when Alison,
Civil Engineer and SCVWS' Paintsites coordinator, moseyed by and explained,
hydrologically (?), what was happening right in front of me ---
if I'd know earlier what I was looking at, I'd have placed more emphasis
on the 'arched culverts' and various pipes and outlets.
As it was, I was able to put just a hint of them in my painting." ~Brad

Lora wanted to put in a figure for interest and picked a costume
from the 1860's when the house was first built.

Mountain Estate Garden,  June 10, 2021

Ten Thursday painters (Brad, Janice, Lora, Dori, Lavonne, Linda B, Tiina, Jayne, Claudia, Alison), visited this Santa Cruz Mountain private garden - some for the first time. Many thanks to the efforts of our host Patti, the grounds were spectacular. In addition to the gardens, we painted sculptures, ponds and structures.

Paintsites survivor edition 3.0

Even though the forecast had a heat advisory, power flex alert and Spare the Air declaration, there was nearly a full house at Fredericks Field. We enjoyed clear views a gentle breeze and engaged in lavender aromatherapy ! Our host treated us to fresh apricots.

Helen. Iris, Candy, Cindy, Bill, Laurie. Lora, Karen, Jayne, Kris, Claudia, Dori, Masako, and Alison were busy as the bees in the Almaden Hills.
