All Aboard the ArtTrain! The Historic Santa Clara Depot, the oldest passenger RR depot in California (or something like that), was the venue for the first of what we plan to be many paintouts at historic sites in Santa Clara over the next 9 months. While not a very large building, there is enough architectural detail to make it a challenging subject and, altho' the depot itself is no longer a functioning, integral part of the Santa Clara Transit Center (the depot currently houses a model railroad museum) which surrounds it, the Caltrain, Amtrak, and VTA arrivals & departures, and a steady flow of passengers gave it a bit of the flavor of its old Southern Pacific heyday.

Somebody absolutely has to paint the 'rails' whenever we visit a train station. Otherwise people viewing this blog wouldn't believe it was actually a railroad paintsite.
