San Mateo County History Museum, Thursday, February 20, 2020

When the County Museum moved to the old courthouse in Redwood City in 1998 the front entrance was blocked by a County annex building. A partnership between the county, city and redevelopment groups led to demolition of the annex thus opening up the entrance and the creation of a newly designed plaza. The stately 1910 County Courthouse is on the National Register of Historic places. It’s front facade boasts a Roman renaissance-style portico, and a magnificent stained glass dome (even more stunning from within) surrounded by eagle sculptures. For more on the history the building refer to the following link:

UC Santa Cruz Arboretum, Santa Cruz, Thursday, February, 13, 2020

Our 2020 UC Santa Cruz Arboretum Paintsite was just as delightful as our visit two years ago. In addition to having the largest selection of Proteas in the world, other than South Africa, the arboretum has hundreds other Mediterranean plant species including those found in the beautiful terraced succulent garden, and is an excellent spot for bird watching. Many thanks to the Arboretum staff and volunteers for accommodating our large enthusiastic group of painters. For more information on the UC Santa Cruz Arboretum check out the following link:
