Quarry Lakes Recreation Area, Fremont, Thursday August 30, 2018

The group of lakes at Quarry Lakes Regional Recreation Area used to be quarries in the mid-19th century.  Gravel taken from this area was used in the construction of the transcontinental railroad.  Starting in 1997 the old quarries were converted into an appealing recreation area.

The site is large (471 acres) and the artists dispersed widely, so only a few were individually photographed.  The temperature was unseasonably cool.  It was a wonderful day to be outside and observe the light as the skies started out quite cloudy with very interesting shapes, and as the clouds gradually dissipated, various parts of the East Bay Hills were brightly illuminated as the sun peeked through holes in the clouds.  The most dramatic moment was when Mission Peak was in sunshine and the rest of the hills were still in shade.  Clouds gave way to bright blue skies, not the haze we have had the last few weeks.
