San Francisco Botanical Garden, Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, Thursday, March 7, 2019

Magnolias and waterlilies, two good reasons to visit San Francisco's Golden Gate Park this spring. In the morning we painted in the SF Botanical Garden and in the afternoon went to view the de Young's Monet exhibit. The Botanical Garden's magnolia collection (around a 100 trees) is magnificent to say the least and it's only a five minute walk away from  the museum's amazing presentation of Claude Monet's later works, namely the artist's paintings of waterlilies.

The garden is known to have the world's fourth most significant conservation collection of magnolia species outside of China. Despite the fact that many storms have passed through the area since the magnolias began blooming in December, the trees still had plenty of blossoms in fine form and luckily several at eye level.  I must say it was very difficult to focus on painting in one location since there were several other exquisite flowering species throughout the property.
